I think that the book The Old Man and the Sea reveals a lot about the author's attitude. Based on just this book it seems that he firmly believes in dedication and never giving up on what you want to achieve. The old man had his mind set on catching the marlin and wasn't going to stop until the fish was his. That makes me think that the author would do the same and may have the same attitude as the old man in the story. I also think that this story reveals that the author doesn't judge people. The man in the story was very old but he still caught the biggest fish the men in the story had ever seen. I think that this proves that the author appreciates people no matter how old they are or what sort of disabilities they may have. Many people wouldn't think an old man would be achieve such a task but instead a young strong man. I appreciate that in this story an old man caught the marlin and not a young fisherman. I think the author also values loyalty. This is shown multiple times in the story. The most obvious way this is shown is by the old man catching the fish. I don't think many people would be able to think of this other reason. The young boy in the story always was there for the old man and went to see him every day. I think that is the best form of dedication shown in this book. Without the younger boy the old man would be lonely and have nobody in his life. I really appreciate the young boy in this story and I think the author does, too. Hemingway writes this story in the third person. I think this was a good way to write the story because you get a lot of insight and the author also lets you know what Santiago was thinking throughout the story.
