#4 The Old Man and the Sea

I believe that there are two heroes in this book. The first and main hero is the old man, Santiago. He his a true hero because he is just an average person who achieved something great. Not very many people would be able to do what this man did. He went days without rest and without good food and nourishment. I believe that many people would have given up, I know i would have. He is determined and has a good heart. He never once gave up but he also felt bad for the fish. He knew the fish was going through the same thing that he was. The fish didn't get to rest or eat. So I think the fish is kind of a hero as well. He had the same determination that the old man had. I think many people probably ignored how hard the fish had to work. It was a great fish and it did not want to have to die. But, he had no choice. The fish could not go any longer and had to die. The old man killed the wonderful fish. Nobody else would have followed that magnificent fish for that long. So it basically goes both ways. I don't think many people would have thought too much about the fish. Most would probably just think of it as any other fish who gets killed. They most likely don't think of the battle the fish put up and how hard it actually worked. The old man is portrayed as more of the hero even though he went through the same amount of pain that the fish went through. I think of them as equals and that the man is no better than the fish. They are both heroes in my mind and they both struggled equally. Even though the fish did not succeed I believe it worked hard and should be recognized as much as the old man was.
