I think that it is a good book to still be reading now days. It teaches us how things used to be for people in the past. People worked really hard and had hard laboring jobs. Many people don't have to do that now days and can't imagine how it used to be. The message of this story really is timeless. There are still stories and movies that have the same message as this story. We have to deal with the same sort of things the old man did. Yes, I know most people do not go out to the sea and have to catch a giant fish but we do have to commit to other things. That is what is so timeless about this story. The message can still be used in modern days. The message is commitment. Of course, we still have to commit to many things everyday. Such as committing to reading and doing these blogs. It is not as hard as what the old man had to do but it is still a commitment. I think we can learn from this novel that we can try a lot harder for things that we want. Most people would have given up if they were in the old man's place. I think the author is trying to tell us to try harder and not give up because a lot worse things could be happening to us. People can be committed to much harder things than what we are now days. If you really want something but know it is far out of your reach the author wants to let you know that you should just try it and not give up. If you want to succeed something do everything in your power to achieve what you want. I believe that is the message of the story and it is important to every single person because everyone wants to achieve things in their lives.
