The Grapes of Wrath #6

I think it is important that we still read this book. It tells about this country's history which is important I think. I think it is good to know what people have gone through and learn from their experiences. When you think about it, it makes you feel how lucky we are right now. Our country is going through a pretty decent time if you compare it to how the country was in the book. No jobs, bad weather, segregation, and little money, that is what the country was going through at the time. The theme of this book is still important for people now days as well as they were back in the day. People now still need to strive for what they want and not let bumps in the road stop them. For example, the men in the story went days and days in a row looking for work and came back each day empty handed but they never gave up and quit trying because they knew how important it was and wanted it to happen for them. "When there was work for a man, ten men fought for it-fought with a low wage." (Steinbeck 283) The men worked really hard for a little money. That is what people now days need to remember. If they want something it will happen they just need to work for it like the people in the story did. We can learn quite a few things from this novel. Of course, we can learn a little about our nation's history but there is much more contained in the pages of the book. You can learn a little about cars, when Tom and Al were fixing them. You can learn about the dust bowl and how people dealt with it. You can learn what California was like in those days and how different people were treated in those times. There are a lot of facts in this book.
