I am about sixty pages into The Grapes of Wrath. Right now the main character are Joad and the preacher Jim Casy. Joad has just gotten out of jail and is not ashamed that he has killed someone. I think that Joad is actually a very nice person. He tries to come off tough to people but I think that he has a good heart and would do whatever he could to help the people that he loves. He says that if he was in the same situation again that he would kill another man for his safety. I believe he is telling the truth and would murder another man but I think he would probably hate to do it. I bet he actually feels guilty for murdering and would hate to have to do it again even though he is not scared to do it. Jim is not exactly a preacher anymore. He stopped having ceremonies and has been having a lot of thoughts. He thinks he might be crazy and he does not even have the holy spirit in him at all. But, by the way he acts I do think that he is a holy man. He tries to think of what is real about the holy spirit and he wonders what kind of person he is for doubting what the church has taught him. He makes up his own ideas about the universe and Joad tells him that nobody would want to hear those ideas. But, Joad does agree that Casy's ideas could be correct and does not doubt him. I don't think that I would believe Casy's ideas though. He just made them up in his head and I doubt that they could really be what is really happening in the universe. I do think that Casy is a good man and he is just trying to do what is right and really just wants to be holy and know all the answers.
