Overall I thought the book was decent. I found it boring. There was nothing that was really that exciting about the story. Yes, it was a great fish and he worked hard for it. But many people, including myself, don't go fishing and don't appreciate how great this fish was. I think there should have been more of a problem in the story. The only problem there was, was catching a fish. There could have been a bigger issue that more people could have gotten into more. More could have happened I think. But, it does make you really appreciate how much Santiago worked. Hemingway wrote it in a way so that you really realized how much work the old man put in to catching the fish. But, I would not recommend this book for other people. I wouldn't have picked out this book to read. It was easy to read though. The way it was written and how short it was made it easy to read and easy to finish quickly. I liked how it was written like that. I think that their should have been more story to it maybe some more fiction. Something that would make you wonder and couldn't really happen. It was almost like there was too much detail in it the story and it made it a little boring because the same things were said more than once. I could relate to Santiago though. He did not let other's opinion get to him. I know what it is like to what something very badly and having to strive to achieve something that is important to me. Santiago was very interested in fishing and everyone has their own hobbies and interests so it helps you relate to the story better. But, if you don't have the same hobby as the old man I could see why you could find this story a bit boring. I think I would give this book only two stars out of five.
